A Tory MP just said there's a '50% chance Theresa May will resign by Friday', Sky News reports
A Tory MP has said there is a '50% chance that Theresa May will resign by Friday', according to Sky News political correspondent Tamara Cohen.
In what will be music to the ears of many, the unnamed Tory source has told Sky News' journalist that Theresa May could finally be stepping down.
After clinging onto power throughout a disastrous General Election, endless party u-turns, and this week's humiliating Tory conference, many across the political parties will feel that it is time for May to stand down.

Serious claims
Charles Walker, vice chair of the Conservative backbench 1922 committee, suggested that journalists have simply been speaking to a few Tory MPs who are hostile towards May. Walker said:
most colleagues that I talk to are right behind the prime minister and think she’s doing an outstanding job in very, very difficult circumstances.
However, evidently the claims are to be taken a little more seriously than Walker implies:

Rumours have been circulating for a while now that Tory MPs are completely losing faith in May, and it's hardly surprising. She seems to be leading the party into total disarray. She lacks authority, struggles to keep it together under pressure and has become a total joke amongst not only the opposition but her own party's supporters, too.
The Tories now have just 100,000 members, down from around 140,000 just 4 years ago. Though the question of her future as PM is still unanswered, one thing is for sure: Theresa May has really messed things up.
Replacement
If the Prime Minister does stand down, who might we expect to see as her replacement? Rudd, Johnson, Rees-Mogg? All options seem utterly terrifying.
What might her resignation mean for Brexit, the future of which still dangles precariously?
Hugo Dixon, founder of InFacts, shared his predictions in a thread on Twitter (click to see thread):

As of yet, Theresa May has obviously remained quiet regarding the rumour that she will have resigned by Friday, but many will be waiting with baited breath for any upcoming announcements.
