Heroic Grenfell firefighter shuns invitation to meet May after Tory MPs cheered blocking public sector pay rise
A firefighter who was one of the first on the scene at the tragic Grenfell Tower fire has gone viral on Facebook after posting his reasons for turning down an invitation to 10 Downing Street to meet Prime Minister Theresa May.
David Badillo, a firefighter based in North Kensington, has had over two-hundred shares on his Facebook post outlining his reasons as of this morning.
According to Badillo, he is unable to attend due to the fact that the public sector pay freeze (which are in essence, pay cuts) have forced him to work a second job to put food on the table for his family.
Not only that, but he slams the “neglect and utter incompetence” that Theresa May and the Tories have shown the Grenfell community since the horrific fire.
In the post (which is now private), Badillo says:
Yesterday I was invited to 10 Downing Street with 35 of my fire brigade colleagues.
Unfortunately I had to turn down the invite from the Prime Minister as it is on a Monday and I will be working my second job to pay my rent and put food on the table for my family.
I have to do this due to 8 years of pay cuts. Which will continue after being enthusiastically voted in by our government, cheering, days after the Grenfell fire, when the vote was won.
So when you’re giving out your meaningless praise for our emergency services remember I hold you in complete contempt.
I won’t even go into the neglect and utter incompetence you have shown the Grenfell community in the days, weeks and months after the fire!
#justice4grenfell #justice4jessie It is evident that the community is still reeling from the horrific fire at Grenfell, and with Theresa May attacking firefighters and public sector workers, failing to commit to proper funding for sprinklers in tower blocks, and failing miserably in looking after the survivors of this horrendous tragedy – she is spitting in the face of all those who were affected on the 14th June.
Well done to David Badillo for standing up to this callous government, we salute you.
