Jeremy Corbyn to face another by-election test as Labour MP resigns
Labour MP Huw Irranca-Davies has officially resigned his position as MP in the House of Commons to represent the constituency in the Welsh Assembly.
Mr Irranca-Davies, a former minister, was appointed to the Manor of Northstead, the traditional method that allows serving MPs to resign their positions.
The resignation will now serve up another by-election test for Jeremy Corbyn as the Labour leader looks to cement his control over the Party amid rumours of possible leadership coups.
The now vacant constituency of Ogmore is traditionally a safe Labour seat, with the Party maintaining a majority of 13,043 in the 2015 General Election.
Labour have selected Chris Elmore as their candidate to replace Mr Irranca-Davies. Mr Elmore has been a councillor for 8 years and currently serves as a cabinet member for children's services and schools in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Labour has won every election held in the constituency since the Representation of the People Act in 1918, and defeat for the Party in the latest by-election remains unlikely.
The Ogmore by-election is expected to be held on the 5th May, on the same day as the Welsh Assembly elections.
