Tories launch their own version of Momentum to appeal to the yoof. The hilarity ensuing is beyond belief. [TWEETS]

Following the huge success of Labour's grassroots campaign Momentum, the Tories have launched their own version - and it's already going down like a lead balloon. 

The Tories have proudly revealed 'Activate', describing it as:

"an independent national grassroots campaign organisation that seeks to actively engage young people in the right of centre politics, make a case for what conservatism can offer and provide a platform to enable their voices to be heard."

The Tories trying to attract the young, who they are notorious for totally misunderstanding and screwing over, was automatically a source of suspicion for Twitter users: https://twitter.com/JaneSamuels/status/902310143551041536

Yet they kicked off their campaign by proudly showing off their very first '#meme':

https://twitter.com/ActivateBritain/status/902284187687780353 It made little sense (perhaps due to it being based on a meme that hasn't been popular since the early 2000s), it wasn't funny and for some reason, like someone's mum had written it, they felt the need to include the hashtags #meme and #retweet. https://twitter.com/justandy101/status/902294154004353024 And they seemed to somehow completely underestimate the idiocy - or potential - of the name 'Activate':  

With Theresa May already being described of Maybot, it seems a particularly poor choice of name:

And it did not go unnoticed that their first attempt at engaging with people was simply a pathetically weak attack on Corbyn: https://twitter.com/Cornish_Damo/status/902310597160783872 According to Twitter users, after much pressure to change the original Twitter handle due to its gross use of underscores, Activate set up a new account.

The old one was promptly taken over and turned into a parody account: https://twitter.com/Activate_uk_net/status/902513874628468740 From a Conservative point of view, it would probably be sensible for the Tories to immediately abandon this idea.
