Many of you will probably remember a time, just a few years ago, where left-wing alternative media outlets basically dominated social media in the UK - especially Facebook.
I can 100% vouch for this. It's been absolutely brutal for me too, watching on helplessly as Facebook have built wall after wall between me and the people who chose to follow me on there, until my website traffic collapsed to way below 5% of what it used to be, and my Facebook infographics often only get just double digit shares, rather than tens of thousands.
90% of the people who follow AAV never see a post from one month to the next.
Twitter being a deteriorating mental health illness in an app certainly hasn't helped the issue either.
Joining Substack this week has been an absolute gamechanger. I'm feeling more energised, optimistic and motivated about my writing than I have in ages.
Sorry to hear this - it's absolutely true. My Facebook feed is jam packed with random entertainment stuff and ads - I can't remember the last time I saw an Evolve post or other left political platforms I follow and posts from FB forums are much reduced with a garbage feed. Another Angry Voice gamed the algorithm and managed to get a post seen on FB last week asking how many people had recently seen anything from him - pretty much no one. He too is moving to Substack - it's got very interesting writers on there. We have to wean people off FB - it's part of the problem not part of the future.
Hey John, thanks for the comment! I've been keeping closely up to date with AAV and his similar problems with Facebook, and his posts inspired us to really get going with Substack today! Just ridiculous how badly Facebook has screwed independent media over.
And, make no mistake, Facebook simply doesn't want left-wing politics on the site. Zuckerberg has also said it about Threads - albeit in a more generalised manner! However, what they don't say is that it's not *all* politics they don't want on there, it's literally just anti-Capitalism. It's exactly like Musk with Twitter too - he's clearly more than happy to have the far-right and the hard-right creating distractions from the real problems. Indeed, he joins in with them. Both are truly disgusting characters.
At least we've got platforms like Substack and YouTube though. For now, at least.
Seems your perspective on being censored is tilted to the left. Ask Badlands Media, most news outlets on the right can’t run a platform on Facebook or YouTube or Twitter due to censorship. Folk have completely lost their audience and revenue streams overnight. Seems they have let you down much slower.
Agreed about fb now being an advertising platform as is instagram.
Warning for those marketers running advertising on fb: hackers are breaking in to the fb backdoor and switching adverts to others and running up bills on the credit cards attached. I personally know one marketing company who lost control of the fb advertising account and in a day an a half the hackers ran up $36k on the company’s credit card.
Rumble and Substack are havens for free speech, so far.
Rumble: best show on Badlands media is Defected.
Eg: Thinking bicameral, holding two potential outcomes and watching for the actual to see which best matches.
I really would pay at least 50 bucks to watch that cage match. I don’t have a preferred victor, I’d just like to see them beat the crap out of each other.

I'm glad you're feeling more positive too.

Independent/small-label music content has been suppressed on FB for most of its history, so welcome to the club.
At least you had a few good years, before you were pushed down the same hole we live in.
Hope your experience is better here.
Beware, Facebook is the sole advertiser here. I wonder how long before they buy Substack and your experience repeats.
Still on YouTube

We’ve had no problems with YouTube as a video hosting platform tbh!
